Ukrainian esports organization Monte has officially kicked off its Counter-Strike 2 roster overhaul, and they are looking to their past to secure their future. The first confirmed piece of the new-look squad is a familiar face who was instrumental in the team’s historic playoff run at the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023.
Rekindling the Paris Major Magic
Monte took the competitive Counter-Strike world by storm in the spring of 2023. Defying all expectations, the underdog roster powered through the Legends Stage in France to secure a spot on the Champions Stage at the Accor Arena. That breakthrough cemented the organization as a legitimate tier-one threat and captured the hearts of fans worldwide.
However, the subsequent transition to Counter-Strike 2 proved turbulent. Following key departures and inconsistent results across international qualifiers, the team entered a rebuilding phase. Bringing back a core pillar from their golden era provides the squad with an instant injection of proven pedigree, tactical identity, and culture.
A Reliable Foundation for the Future
Rebuilding around an alumnus of that magical Paris run addresses Monte’s immediate need for leadership. Instead of gambling solely on unproven tier-two talent, the squad now has an anchor capable of performing under pressure on the biggest stages.
With vital Regional Major Ranking (RMR) qualifiers on the horizon, time is of the essence. Having an experienced voice in the server will accelerate the development of whichever new recruits fill out the remaining slots. If this initial signing is any indication, Monte is focused on regaining its standing among Europe’s elite.
Stay tuned as Monte is expected to announce the remainder of their five-man CS2 roster in the coming days.
